Zwei Männer und eine Frau vor Laptops

Welcome to the English version of the BMWK business start-up portal.

Companies set up by non-Germans and migrants are important for Germany as they provide around 600,000 jobs and training for many young people.

In a nutshell: Register your business, get permits if needed

You can get started as soon as you have registered your self-employed activity with the Trade Office or have applied to the Tax Office for a tax number as a freelancer. You should check in advance with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce or the Chamber of Skilled Crafts to find out if you need to meet any additional formal requirements. You should also make use of the services offered by the municipal and regional business development units or the Start-up Initiative. Find out whether there are any special preconditions, or whether you need certificates, official permits or approvals. The public authority guide can lead you to the relevant local public authorities.
